This exploratory workshop will introduce students to the art of hand-cut paper collaging inspired by the Surrealism movement that began in the 1920’s.

Collaging offers a way to re-purpose & re-imagine materials. It also creates connections between disparate images & ideas to tell a new story.

The workshop will start with a short presentation to learn more about the history of the movement to inspire us to play around with creating our own collages that bring in dream, fantasy, and often times strange images. Students will then be guided through hands-on learning activities that incorporate the different elements that are often seen in & characteristic of Surrealist collages.

Materials will be provided, but students are very much invited and encouraged to bring their favorite magazines and/or paper clippings that they would like to incorporate into their personal collages.

No experience is necessary. Just bring an open mind to play with any & all possibilities!
